I grew up in Jalan Bukit Merah and spent much of my childhood kicking the ‘pong pong’ fruit or playing catching with my friends in the void deck till the booming voice of our parents would send us scurrying back home. Although life was challenging when I was growing up, I experienced many little joys in life, such as when my mother slipped my favourite fried chicken wing into my bowl of rice.

Out-of-Stream Experience - Additional Math

It has been a pleasant overall experience. To take Additional Mathematics at a less demanding level, I realised that the slower pace teaching style provides me with the opportunity to still study the subject without feeling too overwhelmed by its heavy content. This makes learning Additional Mathematics much enjoyable and easier to understand.

Through this program, I learn to be more outspoken during class and be more open towards asking questions whenever in doubt. Not only that, I have also learnt to appreciate mathematics more. In the past, I disliked doing math. However, Mathematics has become a subject that I am more confident in now. Although I am not learning the full content of Additional Mathematics, there are some topics and formulas that I have picked up through this program which could also be used in E-maths.

Since I am more open towards asking questions when in doubt now, I have learn to use that skill in other subject lessons to clarify my doubts immediately to learn better.

I hope that this program will be taught at a more higher level that will challenge us further. Perhaps through adding more topics, it would  help to push students to do even better. Or even encouraging students in this program to attempt it at Express level after they had grasp the basics of the subject.

Out-of-Stream Experience - Art

It has been great experience! I enjoyed it very much as I was able to learn a lot more and have fun at the same time. I was given countless opportunities to explore more in the subject and able to obtain new skills that were made unavailable to me previously. That is the beauty of the less demanding program for Art.

I have learned that to produce a work of art typically begins with an idea or a concept that the artist would want to convey. And the planning that is put into making the art is not easy. I discovered this through one of the projects set when given the chance to explore making clay art.

I was able to go deeper into the subject as a result of having a chance to enter this course. I probably would have just treated art as a hobby and lose interest in it had I not gone with the opportunity to learn more and dive deeper into the subject and find out that there's more to it than what I've already know.

The knowledge gained are useful for exchange of ideas with others who are interested in the same subject matter as I am. This way I am always open to learn something new

I wish there were more time in the program for us to explore other forms of arts as they are aplenty to try. Even if some of it could be challenging, it helps that the elements of pressure is off and I can just focus on having the fun while learning.

I always loved sports and my greatest sporting moment was when I represented Singapore for floorball. At the same time, I started coaching and realised that I feel fulfilled when my players work well together as team to surpass their own expectations. This sense of fulfilment led me to become a teacher.

My wife and I are proud parents of 3 beautiful children and we hope that they will grow up appreciating what we have and more importantly, love themselves, each other and others around them.
